Spirulina - What it is And What it is Not

Spirulina - What it is And What it is Not

When the world is going through a health crisis it's important to understand what you can be doing to keep your body as best functioning as possible.

Even more so to understand what different supplements really are.

I will start with the bottom line:

Spirulina is like a natural multivitamin.

So there are so many food supplements out there that I'm sure it could get very confusing for most people to decide what to take or if to take anything at all.

The worst part of all of it is that the food supplement market has become so huge that you have all of these big companies trying to sell you their products.

I must have said it a thousand times but it's one of those things that need to always be repeated.

In a perfect world no one should need to take a pill to enjoy perfect health. We should be able to get everything that our body needs through our diet, but unfortunately so this is not the case.

You could blame it on our eating habits or the modern day food production, however you want to explain it does not change the fact. For the most part in western society we are not getting everything we need for optimal health from our daily diet.

Back to the spirulina

This stuff is a form of blue green algae that is known as superfood.

It is packed with vitamins and minerals that are not found in high concentrations in most regular diets.

Spirulina is NOT FOR EVERYONE

There are certain people who should not take Spirulina, if you suffer from any chronic illness you should most definitely consult your healthcare provider before taking Spirulina, as well as any food supplement.

For example you should not take Spirulina if:
  • you take medication for blood clotting problems
  • you take medication for immune system problems
  • you suffer from Phenylketonuria

The fact is that like all food supplements Spirulina has its own triple face that I have just (this very moment while writing this) decided to call

I feel like it's being pawned out as a cure for many things that have no real clinical backing.

Don't get me wrong it is really great stuff, but...

Bottom line: Spirulina is like a natural multi-vitamin and that is why I take it.

Cleansing Herbs Spotted

I walked past these lush pants all night thinking that I needed to take some pictures and share a story about them.

They are growing along a path that is usually walked on allot, but I think that because of the Corona lock down they have been able to get really big.

Truth is I should also mention some of the ways that my own outlooks have changed in connection with this whole crazy world wide pandemic but I don't know if this is the place.

My point is just to share these pictures of wild pants that have so much healing powers and just grow rampant.

The one on top and this one below are milk thistle. It's great for liver health and detoxification.

The second one down here is Stinging Nettle which is well known for its cleansing and nourishing powers.

It is funny to call them powers, but I can't think of a better term at this very moment. Would aspects of capabilities work better?

Nope, I think power is the best fit for now.

Be careful if you don't know, they really do sting. If you harvest them wear thick gloves with no holes.

I have not yet tried to wild harvest nettle but I hope to tomorrow.

But this is what I read.

To get the sting out of them all you need to do is cook them, dry them or crush them.

Last but not least you have the Mallow which is a cleansing plant that can be just eaten fresh in salads instead of lettuce.

It's springtime and there are so many great plants growing wild right now I hope I get a chance to tell you all about more.

Some Old Time Remedies For The NEW THREAT

This is not a cure for carona.

I actually dont want to write this because I am extremely upset about the way the world is reacting to the new Caronavires.

But I already did the research so I may as well share it.

This is not a cure, and now I will go back to the top and write it there as well.

But here are a list of foods and herbs that are known to have anti virus actions and afterwards I will explain why these in specific and link my sources.

Chamomile
Citrus peels
Passion flowers
Hony
Propolis
Parsley
Celery
Spinach
Kale
Tea
Broccoli
Cucumber
Red onions
Clover blossom
Peppermint
Rosemary
Oregano
Dandelion
Carrots

Now before you get upset and say, what a bunch of foods and herbs are the answer to this world wide epademic? And this guy also spells things wrong?

Yeah well had to write this from my phone so sorry about that.

SO IS THERE A MEDICAL  CURE FOR THE CORONAVIRUS?

I think so

I think that its Remdesivir but it is not yet aproved by the FDA.

Why do I think this here are the two reasons in the links below

So before I go into why I think we are not hearing about this yet.

This is why I think the above list was worth my time.

If you read about how the Remdesivir works its a nucleoside analogue which means it stops the virus from being able to reproduce by messing with how it produces its energy, I think , but you can go back and see for yourself if you would like.

Flavonoids are a petrochemical in plants that are known to kill certain viruses.

Now there was an extensive research done on how a number of them work and you may read it here.

So the list above is of the common foods and herbs that contain the flavonoids from the study which if you read the whole thing work similarly to the drug Remdesivir.

Ok so then whats the problem why are we in a world wide panic?

Well it could be that remedesivir is not safe, there probably is not enough of it if too many people are infected.

Maybe I am wrong, just ask my wife it happens a lot.

But in my opinion we all spend way too much time looking at our phones and being scared.

How I Built My Own Bio Filter For My Gray Water System

When we bought our home a few years back we knew that there was a problem with the plumbing, three drainage pipes from three kitchen sink were too small and would keep on greeting clogged.

Eventually I just had to drill a hole in the wall and let the water dragon into the garden.

The trees and flower bushes really loved it.

But it was a bit nasty.

Finally I put together this bio filter and it seems to work great.

Here is how I did it...

I cut a plastic barrel in half and drilled a drainage hole half way up one of the sides.

Then the bottom up to the drainage hole with wood chips inside a steel screen.

I feed the pipe from the sink through an older planter pot with more steel screen and some old astroterf for a filter.

Then I added some alovera and gravel.

Covered it up with stone to look nice and done.

Just some green thinking..

Spirulina - So Is It Really Good For You?

With my last order of dry herbs from my supplier I received a complimentary bottle of Spirulina capsules.

Be then I never took the stuff on a regular basis.

But after taking it for a while I did feel an overall effect of better health.

So was it all in my head?

After reading up on the research it seems not.

There is some good proof that Spirulina helps with allergies and heart disease, as will as a number of other things.

Also it is safe to take and is a good source of vitamins and other goodies for the body, so why not?

Here is a link to a great article that sums up the research.

Digestive Tonic Syrup

So after years of success with my winter herbal formulas for colds and couphs I really wanted to create a new formula for some thing different.

So after a few tims of my kids complaning about stomach aiches I decided that it was time for a syrup for digestional discomforts.

The formula I put together was actually really simple.

It consisted of four herbs.

  • Pepper mint

  • Spiramint

  • Sage

  • Ginger

In order for the syrup to be tasty I only used a small amount of the sage in comparison to the other three herbs.

I started off by boiling 30 grams of fresh Ginger in one liter of water for about 15 minutes, then I added 30 grams of dry spiramint, 30 grams of dry pepper mint and ten grams of sage and let it steep for about an hour.

After straining and pressing the concenrated extract and filtering it through a cheese cloth I added 1.5 grams of sugar for every ml of liquid and heated over a low flam until all the sugar was disolved.

It came out good, the tast is good and also the effect. What is really nice about it is that the strong mint has a fast cooling efect on the stomach as soon as you take it.

Fast Tincture Making Using 98% Alcohol

How to make a tincture in a day.

Its is always best to make your tinctures by letting the herbs sit in the alcohol for at least a week, but what to do when you need to make a tincture now, like today.

I have been making a winter cold syrup for many years now using a great formula that really works well. It is a really simple one also. I know that Ihave written about it in the past but I'll write it out here as well.

It is made by adding equal parts of the six plants listed below.

  • Elder flowers
  • Elderberries
  • Chamomile
  • Linden
  • Yarrow
  • Catnip

About a year ago I started to offer it in tincture form as well.

The problem is the time it takes to make and well I guess that is also my problem of not preparing enough in advance.

So at the beginning of the winter when someone asked for the tincture form and I had not been prepared I used 98% alcohol mixed with a high concentrated water base extract to make a quick fix tincture that worked out pretty well.

This is how I did it and the out come worked well.

But still I would suggest being better prepared and not having to go this route.

I blended 25 grams of the mixed dry herbs until it was a fine powder.

Then I added 200 ml of boiling water and left it to steep for about an hour.

After pressing and filtering I had about 100 ml of a very dark water based extract that I added an equivalent amount of the 98% alcohol to.

There was some sort of congeling that happened as a reaction to the alcohol so I needed to run it through a cheesecloth again, but still the resulting 49% alcohol herbal extract that I had as a finished product was perfect for what I needed.

I had a bottle for myself that I used and it worked great.
